Wrinkles & Fine Lines

Lines and creases that appear when we move our face – and increasingly stay when the face is at rest.

What This Concern Looks Like

Wrinkles and fine lines can appear around the eyes, forehead, between the brows, or around the mouth. They may be movement-dependent at first and gradually remain visible even when the face is relaxed.

Why It Happens

Wrinkles and fine lines are the result of repeated facial movement, gradual changes in skin structure, and external factors such as sun exposure.

Repeated facial movement

Every time we frown, smile or squint, the underlying muscles fold the skin. Over many years, these repeated folds can leave visible creases, first with movement and later at rest.

Gradual collagen and elastin decline

From our mid-20s onwards, the skin’s supportive proteins naturally decrease. The surface becomes thinner and less elastic, which makes lines and creases more likely to remain visible.

Sun exposure and environmental stress

UV exposure, pollution and smoking can accelerate changes in collagen and elastin. This can make wrinkles appear earlier or more pronounced than expected for age alone.

Individual anatomy and expression patterns

Some people naturally have stronger facial muscles or more expressive habits. This can focus creasing in certain regions such as the frown area, forehead or around the eyes.

Why It Matters

Wrinkles and fine lines are a normal part of ageing, but they can influence how rested, calm or confident we look and feel.

Perceived tiredness or stress

Deeper lines, especially around the eyes and between the brows, can make a person look more tired, worried or stressed than they actually feel.

Changes in facial expression at rest

Static lines in the frown or forehead area may create the impression of being upset or tense, even when the face is relaxed.

Makeup settling into creases

Foundation or concealer can collect in fine lines, especially under the eyes or around the mouth, which may draw more attention to the area.

Impact on self-perception

Some people feel that new or deepening lines do not match how youthful or energetic they feel internally, which can affect day-to-day confidence.

Who Gets It

Almost everyone will develop some degree of wrinkles and fine lines over time, but the pattern and timing vary from person to person.

Early fine lines in expressive areas

People who are naturally expressive, or who squint frequently, may notice fine lines around the eyes or forehead in their late 20s or 30s.

Professionals with high screen time

Spending long hours focusing on screens can encourage frowning or squinting, contributing to lines between the brows and across the forehead.

Outdoor and sun-exposed lifestyles

Those who work or exercise outdoors, especially without consistent sun protection, often show earlier and more pronounced lines in exposed areas.

Later-onset deeper creases

In the 40s, 50s and beyond, normal changes in skin structure can turn previously faint expression lines into more visible static lines at rest.

Home Care

Daily habits and skincare cannot remove established wrinkles, but they can meaningfully support skin quality and slow further change.

  • Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning, even on cloudy days.
  • Incorporate a gentle antioxidant serum to help defend against environmental stress.
  • Use hydrating serums and moisturisers to support a smoother skin surface.
  • Avoid smoking and minimise excessive, unprotected sun exposure.
  • Consider a structured night-time routine with ingredients that support surface renewal, if appropriate for your skin.
  • Prioritise good sleep, balanced nutrition and stress management, which all influence how the skin behaves over time.

How We Help

At M+ we focus on softening the appearance of lines while maintaining natural expression and respecting your features and preferences.

Assessment first, not formula

We begin by understanding your unique expression patterns, skin quality and goals, rather than following a one-size-fits-all template.

Prioritising natural expression

Our aim is to support a more rested, softened appearance while preserving the character and movement that make your face uniquely yours.

Layered, gradual planning

When appropriate, we may recommend a staged approach that can include skincare, device-based treatments and other options over time, rather than doing everything at once.

Safety and evidence-based choices

Any in-clinic options we discuss are grounded in current evidence and delivered within clear safety frameworks, with time for you to ask questions.

Safety & Limitations

Every treatment journey begins with a careful assessment of your unique features, contributing factors, and long-term goals. Your clinician will evaluate how your skin behaves, what may be influencing your concerns, and which pathways may be suitable for exploration.

We approach each concern with a balanced, evidence-informed mindset. While many concerns can be improved, outcomes naturally vary from person to person. Suitability depends on factors such as skin condition, medical history, lifestyle, and individual response patterns.

We do not guarantee results, and we avoid over-simplifying complex concerns. Your clinician will always ensure that all recommendations remain safe, appropriate, and aligned with your expectations.

What to Expect in Consultation

During your consultation, your clinician will take time to understand your goals and review how your skin behaves day-to-day. This includes discussing symptoms, patterns, triggers, and relevant history.

A high-level skin assessment will be performed to identify contributing factors such as texture changes, hydration balance, sensitivity, or structural variations that may influence your concern.

You will receive clear, balanced guidance outlining which general treatment categories may be suitable. This process is designed to help you make informed, confident decisions without pressure or overstated expectations.
